calamine lotion works well. You should also try aloe vera gel.

Cover up his skin problem spots, or try to treat it so where he doesn't have to pick it.
Reply:If it's an eczema type itching, you could try a bag of frozen peas, or similar, just keep it cold.
Reply:Rub some hydogen peroxide on to the area that is itching. It will sting at first but the oxygen will get rid of the bugs and germs that is causing the itch.

Would a dermatologist accept Medicaid for skin problems?

My seborrhea is very irritated, %26amp; many people think I should go see one. I don't have the money to pay out of pocket.
Would a dermatologist accept Medicaid for skin problems?
Depends on the state you live in. Go to your primary doc and ask for a referral to a dermatologist. Where I work, we bill Medicaid for certain skin related problems. Good luck though, we only have 2 dermatologists within a 100 mile county that accepts Medicaid.
Would a dermatologist accept Medicaid for skin problems?
you need to call the doc and ask that question. not all docs will accept.
Reply:you might call medicaid and ask them because it is different for each state....also ask if they even cover for dermatologists
Reply:Depends on your state, what plan you are on, and how many there are that do accept it. Most likely yes, may have to drive a bit, may not.

Need help for toy poodle with skin problems. he itches and smells terrible. have tryed everything.?

took him to the vet but steroid shots have not worked. Have tryed medicated prescription shampoos. he smells like musty socks. He is 13 years old. He scratchs all the time. only benadryl helps. He is digging his fur off and getting secondary infection, and is on antibiotics

I'm sorry, but your vet must be doing the "last resort" with the steroid shots and anti-biotics.

I went thru this with a Shih Tzu x,.. her skin smelt like rotten flesh and the poor baby was constantly itching and inflamed skin/hair loss too.

Tar shampoos, oatmeal bathes, etc. gave only temporary relief. Even lamb/rice thinking food allergy,.. which it may have been,..however, so difficult to eliminate and distinguish then (it wa over a decade ago).

Unfortunately, smaller bred dogs tend to have such severe skin problems.

I can only suggest what I've learnt since then (my dog passed at over 17 yrs. of age awhile ago).

Try natural foods without any grain, corn, wheat fillers,.. even try blended raw foods, try giving a tsp. of yogurt with every meal, also try Aloe Vera juice in food (fr. health store) and Aloe Vera gel on skin to soothe and heal.

Be consistant and do this for at least a few wks. to see any improvement. Also stop with the medicated shampoos,... use an Aloe Vera base natural shampoo or just baking soda and water.

I hope this helps.

Gd. luck.

Try vitamin B or ask your vet for DemCaps. He may have dry skin and those will help.
Reply:Have you changed the diet yet. Make your own put boiled chicken, cooked rice and a few carrots in a blender.

Is he allergic to the antibiotics. Do you bath the poor thing too much. Maybe if you used a water vinegar rinse after the bath to make sure you get all the soap off and hopefully make the skin feel better.

Ask the Vet if you can give him Claritin the

Cost co brand is much less costly.

Maybe if you rub him down with tea tree oil after a bath. Tea tree oil kind of smells strong at first but the smell goes away awhile. Tea tree oil helped my itchy skin.

I don't know but just thought I would throw out a few suggestions.
Reply:The DemCaps work miracles. I would also try to change his food to something really healthy but make sure it is for an older dog. Canidae makes a Platinum thats for senior dogs and its really good for there coats. Has your vet tried allergy shots? If Benadryl is working he may be allergic to something in the house or outside. Good luck with your little stinky!
Reply:You have tried treatments without any success, my advice won't help your dog to look pretty but it may help with finding the cause for his skin infection. At this stage i would have him clipped very short as a poodle has very dense curly hair which helps to create a very warm environment for bacteria. Even if you are bathing him regular, you may not be drying him fully, which will create problems. I suggest clipping him short will help to manage the skin and give you a better chance at fighting this infection. Also, dogs of this age and breeds with thick hair can have problems with oils in the coat, have you tried to reduce the oils (same as oily hair in humans).
Reply:hello, this is what we try in Turkey and it helps with most cases..

first try to change the dog food. the diet can cause it.

secondary try to put some olive oil on the parts that scratched and for a week give your dog some fish with no bones. fish is very good for dogs skin. i did it my old hunting dog and it worked.
Reply:Omega three oil capsules, flax seed oil is good, put a mix of physllium husks, linseeds, ricebran, almond meal, whey powder in his food every day,you can buy the mix already made up but the vets charge a fortune for something you can make up yourself,i seen a silky almost bald with in two weeks of eating this she had stopped scratching and the hair was growing back.
Reply:Definitely get him tested for allergies. It could be a reaction to almost anything - fleas, dander, pollen, and many types of foods. Ask your vet for a VARL allergy test. It's comprehensive, even if a tad expensive. However, it could provide an easy and simple solution, like making a diet change.
Reply:Try giving him a nutritional supplement. We did this with our dog after going exactly through what you have - steroid shots, medicated shampoos, natural food diet, benedryl, etc. He was literally scratching himself bloody and had lost his hair.

After two weeks on the supplement (which by the way was a juice that he liked), the skin started healing, he stopped scratching, his hair grew back even healthier, and we no longer needed the things that the vet prescribed. Even his groomer went nuts when she saw the difference. I'll put the link below if you're interested in the specific brand and other stories.
Reply:Hi,

Sounds like a food allergy. I have a website all about Standard Poodles and there is a page about food allergies. Check it out, it might help.

serious answers only .
My german shephard has some serious skin problems , and often loses the hair on the rear part of his back .?
Vet check. Could be an allergy - food or environmental. I would have the vet do a skin scraping to see if there are any mites to determine if it is Manage. 2 types of manage - sarcoptic [contagious] or demadex. [not contagious] Demadex is a result of a weakend immune system. Mange is easily treated but takes awhile. We successfully treated 1 dog who had sarcoptic and then it went to demadex. It took him about 9 months to clear from beginning to end of treatment. He was treated with Ivermectin. We are treating another boy right now for demadex. No hair on him at all and covered in bloody wounds. We started him with the Ivermectin and it almost killed him. He was too sick [due to someone starving him almost to death] so we had to wait a couple weeks. We began treating him with Interceptor [a heartworm med] and he has responded great. We also had him on Baytril for infections in his skin. I don't know if your boy has mange, but I thought I'd pass on my mange info just in case. I see a lot of dogs in the shelter with missing hair, skin infections, etc., and they usually put them down because treatment/recovery process is slow. And there are alot Vets that misdiagnos it. Always breaks my heart because I know with the right diagnosis/treatment, they recover just fine. If it is not mange, not an allergy, maybe a different food and/or skin caps on the food to give extra hair and skin nutrition. The last thing might be boredom. Stress and lack of outdoor activity such as excersise leads them to become kinda neurtotic and they can chew themselves to bits. Best of luck to you and your boy.

Use peanut butter.
Reply:takie him to a vet
Reply:well that happend to my dog too and the animal docter told me when ever i take her a bath to put on garlic oil on her skin and a month later her itch stop and her skin is back to normal but u should really see of of those animal docters to see what they say
Reply:you are doing all the right things, try cod liver oil capsule. good luck!
Reply:ask the vet about giving him benadryl; it helped our Collie with his hot spots/itching.
Reply:he could be allergic to the frontline. have you taken him to the vet for allergy shots? get iodine and put it on his skin for relief and get a t-shirt so he has it on and can not irritate his skin more by biting and itching it.
Reply:he is probly itchy from dry skin... pour a can of tuna over his food and it should clear it up over a few days it like mositurizes his skin etc..
Reply:My dog had the exact same problem. I probably take him to the vet for professional help if I were you. We took our dog there and she's a lot better.

Hope this helps!

P.S. You can try olive oil, pour it over his food once a day. It helps their skin alot.
Reply:What food does he eat? He could be allergic to one/some of the ingredients. Foods like Iams, Purina, Pedigree, Eukanuba, Science Diet, etc are total crap and shouldn't be fed. (Decent foods include Innova, Innova EVO, California Natural, Nature's Variety, Canidae, Wellness, Orijen, Solid Gold)

Have you gone to the vet? He can help diagnose your problem and get you on some medicine.
Reply:Ok, this works for humans with poison ivy, so I'm wondering if it will work for dogs with a dermatological problem. Peel a banana, and then rub the inside of the peelings over the affected area. Do this every 6-8 hours or so for 3 days, and see if the scratching slows down. Best I can suggest. You can verify this remedy for poison ivy by doing a google search. I realize this is not from ivy! Just give it a try!
Reply:My puppy was losing hair on his stomach and I took him to the vet and they had me wash his stomach with iodine and let it sit for 10 minutes for a week once a day! It worked! His hair all grew back!
Reply:take him to a vet- dogs can get some serious infections of the skin , some caused by bugs like lice and scabies are something to worry about and should be ruled out by a experienced vet. other problems may be just involving the skin . diet can sometimes help- some issues can only be cured by medications prescribed by a vet- and are easy to solve. if your vet hasnt come up with a solution you should consult a different vet.
Reply:my dog does that occasionally and we usually clean it out really good with hydrogen peroxide everyday and some times try and put some gauze on it! or maybe try getting a cone so they can heal! =D
Reply:He could be having a food allergy. You may want to change your dogs diet to a fish and sweet potato formula. "Wellness" makes it. And give your dog Fish oil pills. The Fish oil will get rid of the dandriff. The Omega 3 and 6 will put moister back into your dog skin. You also may want to try switching the flea treatment to "Revolution" That helps with all internal parasites including heart worm as well as killing flea and tick.
Reply:there's a product called atopica - it's a cyclosporine which blocks the allergic responses in dogs.. it usually causes the pet to become nearly to completely itch free - but used only in sever cases of dermatitis. the most common side effect is GI upset because castor oil is used in the capsule but giving the product on an empty stomach helps, or adding pepcid twice a day.

the cost of the product is quite high until they get all the patents finished on the product - but the people i know that have used it, swear by it and say that it's worth it. try discussing it with your vet to see if it's the right medication for your pet.
Reply:I have the same issue's with our golden. We have had her at the vet a few times for this. We had to try giving Diphey hydramine first. We gave her four pills a day. This didn't seem to help her at all. So now we have steroids that we give her when she starts to itch. Also if he has been itching its possible that he has got a infection from itching so hard. I was finding scabs on my girl. She got so bad at one point that she would just do this shaking thing every time she would get up.Her legs would kick and body would just shiver as if some thing were crawling on her. This time a year is the worst for her. There is just some thing in the air that does not mix with her. So if I was you I would make a vet appointment and start working on some ideas to help your boy out. I hope he gets better... Also we have to give our dog a bath every week with a medicated shampoo.

We also have to put a cone on her when we go places. Other words it hair all over the place when we come home. I do not like to give her the Prednisom (steroid) every time I have to go out to the store..
Reply:Sounds to me like this dog has a skin disease. It could be ringworm and it could possibly be a type of mange. Either way the dog is going to suffer if the condition isn't cured.

I know of a home remedy that could possibly cure the animal of the condition. If you're willing to try it, I am sure that it will work. If not then I recommend a trip to the Vet.

I have seen this procedure work many times with many dogs. It is messy and the dog would have to be kept outside until the treatment wears off.

The treatment is as follows. Change the oil in your motor vehicle. The older the oil the better. That will give you a minimum of approximately four quarts of oil. Find a store that sells sulphur. Mix one 3 ounce box of Swan Sulphur in the oil. Put on some plastic gloves. Mix the sulphur in real good. Bring you dog outside. Take the mixture with your hands and rub into the dog's fur until it soaks the skin. Do this especially in the affected areas.

Leave this mixture on until it wears off (about two weeks). Once the treatment has worn itself out of the fur, bathe the animal. In about six weeks your dog will have a beautiful radiant coat of fur.
Reply:Try using Vitamin E lotion. It worked on my dog.
Reply:Has he had bloodwork done recently to check thyroid levels? Skin problems can be a sign of thyroid deficiency. That's how I found out my dog has it. If he does, the pills for it are really cheap.

How can I treat extreme dry skin problems?

I have extremly dry skin and have tried all of the otc products and prescription but non ehelped until I went to Olay products I always thought this was for older skin but it is great for dry skin too.

I use Olay bar or wash in the shower not to hot water and no bath sitting in water dries your skin out more. I then use and in shower moisturizer Olay too. Then when I dry off on trouble spots elbows, feet, hands, etc. I use the lotion Olay too. If my skin is so bad it has cracked open it will be well in almost 12 hours.

Olay has saved my skin and now they have many types of scents.
How can I treat extreme dry skin problems?
I'd say Carley's Clear %26amp; Smooth Natural Soap Bar %26amp; moisturiser!!! It's the BEST!! Everybody LOVE it!!! cuz it's ADDICTIVE %26amp; really makes you feels CLEAN!! It seems to cure many skin problem indluding eczema, acne, dermatitis, dry skin %26amp; many more!

Carley's Clear %26amp; Smooth Moisturiser

http://cgi.ebay.com/The-best-MOISTURIZER...

Carley's Clear %26amp; Smooth Natural Soap Bar (5)

http://cgi.ebay.com/NATURAL-SOAP-The-bes...

But the bar is SOO big!!! It's 6 ounces per bar!! How big is that?? I suggest you to try their moisturiser (if it's for the body, try their body lotion at their eBay Store) because you'll get FREE 1 bar soap!!! You WILL love their products as much as I do!!

And don't forget, oatmeal bath!!

Here's how:

You'll need a blender, food processor or coffee grinder and 1 cup of oatmeal, 1 cup of milk (or more according to your liking), 2 tablespoon of honey %26amp; olive oil each. You can use instant oatmeal (unflavored), quick oats or slow cooking oats- all work equally as well. For babies, you'll only need about 1/3 cup per bath.

Blend or process the oats on the highest setting until you have a very fine, consistent powder. To test the colloid property of the oats, stir 1 tablespoon oats into a glass of warm water. If the oats readily absorb the water and give it a milky look and a silky feel, you've blended long enough.

Giving the bath:

Sprinkle the oats into a tub of running water and stir the water with your hand several times to ensure even distribution. Add milk, honey %26amp; olive oil.

Feel along the bottom of the tub for clumps and break up any you find.

Get into the tub carefully as the oats %26amp; oils will make the tub even more slippery than usual. Allow yourself to soak in the tub for 15-20 minutes and pat dry with a soft towel rather than rubbing. Slather moisturiser.

You can use this bath once or twice a day.

If it's your face, do an oatmeal facial. Mix oatmeal with milk to a paste. Apply it to your face %26amp; wait for about 20-30 minutes. Wash off with warm water. Follow with a splash of cold water. Pat dry! Apply moisturiser.

GOOD LUCK!!

I normally don't have skin problems. Why is my forhead suddenly started to break out?

My temple area, and uder my eyes are also broken out, I wash my face twice aday just like I have for 26 years, I've never really had any breakouts before especially like this!
I normally don't have skin problems. Why is my forhead suddenly started to break out?
could be stress, if you are stressed this limits your bodies affectivness to fight bacteria and thats what causes acne. it also could be hormonal. the only way to tell is to see a dematologist. but all you can do yourself is try to manage stress and maybe use an antibacterial face wash.
